What is MyVanbreda?
MyVanbreda is part of Vanbreda Risk & Benefits, the largest independent insurance broker in Belgium. Why do I have to register?
By registering, we know who your employer is. This allows you to enjoy insurance terms that cannot be obtained elsewhere. Furthermore, only you will be able to access your contracts and data after registration.
How much does it cost to change my insurance?
Changing your insurance doesn’t cost a thing. What’s more, we manage the entire change for you – you won’t even have to leave your chair!
How is it possible that MyVanbreda can offer such discounts?
Both the insurer and the broker experience huge gains in efficiency thanks to MyVanbreda. Is my data safe?
Yes, your data is completely safe on MyVanbreda. It is processed and stored on the Vanbreda Risk & Benefits Data Management platforms. Furthermore, their employees will treat your data with the utmost confidentiality.
What if I change my mind?
You can revoke the agreement within 14 days, without having to specify a reason. The withdrawal period ends 14 days after the day MyVanbreda confirmed your agreement. More information on revoking an agreement can be found in the footer.
What if I start to work for another employer?
MyVanbreda and its reduced rates apply for all employees and their families of the affiliated companies. When you leave your company, your contract can continue nonetheless. The insurance company, however, does have the right to change your premium to market rates from your contract’s next due date onwards.

Family Insurance

1. Aim of the insurance policy

A family insurance policy reimburses the costs of material and physical damage (for which you are not contractually liable) that you, your family members or pets cause to others on your private time. The insurer will also cover the legal costs for defending you if you are held liable for such incidents.

If you incur damages caused by a liable third party, then your insurer will endeavour to recover these damages.

This may include:

  • Whilst cycling, you cause a road traffic accident for which you are liable;
  • You suddenly change lanes. A cyclist has to swerve to avoid you, cycles into a wall and is injured;
  • You are visiting friends and spill a glass of water onto an expensive computer;
  • While out for an evening walk, you are bitten by a neighbour's dog. Your family insurance policy seeks to reclaim your expenses from your neighbour.

2. What is covered by this insurance policy?

2.1 Building and contents

We insure you for damages to buildings, properties and their contents which are intended for private use.

This includes:

  • your main residence;
  • secondary residences such as student rooms or holiday homes;
  • your garages, irrespective of where they are located;
  • gardens;
  • passenger lifts;

2.2 Animals

There is cover for damages caused by all pets except for horses.

2.3 Leisure activities

We cover you for damages caused:

  • during sports activities;
  • by remote-controlled airborne crafts;
  • by DIY equipment and garden appliances.

2.4 Temporary stays, trips and holidays

Contractual liability for damages to a hotel, caravan or similar dwelling is also covered whilst you are on holiday.

2.5 Youth movements

Your personal liability in relation to children as a leader, chaperone or organiser of a youth movement or similar club is also insured.

3. Extras: free bicycle assistance

You will benefit from 24/7 assistance in case of mechanical problems while cycling in Belgium or if your bike is stolen while you are out. If the bike cannot be repaired on site, we will take you back to your place of residence or starting point (up to 50 km).

Mountain bikes and electric bikes are also covered.

4. How much are you insured for?

For physical damage, you are insured for up to €25,000,000 per claim and for material damage up to €5,000,000 per claim.

An excess is applied for each compensation claim. As of 1 April 2016, this amounted to €248.19. This excess changes to match developments in the consumer price index.

5. Where are you insured?

The cover provided under this policy is valid worldwide.

6. What are you never insured for?

  • Damages caused deliberately by an insured party aged over 16;
  • Gross negligence of an over-18 due to drunkenness, active participation in a bet, challenge or riot.

7. Who is insured?

Your entire family, including all family members residing with you such as your children, partner and other cohabiting family members.

All legal costs are paid by your insurer:

  • You cause some damage and are therefore liable through the courts. In this case, your insurer will provide a defence;
  • You incur damage due to the actions of a third party. In such cases, the legal protection insurer can also intervene to assist with the legal costs in making a claim.
