What is MyVanbreda?

Why do I have to register?
By registering, we know who your employer is. This allows you to enjoy insurance terms that cannot be obtained elsewhere. Furthermore, only you will be able to access your contracts and data after registration.
How much does it cost to change my insurance?
Changing your insurance doesn’t cost a thing. What’s more, we manage the entire change for you – you won’t even have to leave your chair!

Is my data safe?
Yes, your data is completely safe on MyVanbreda. It is processed and stored on the Vanbreda Risk & Benefits Data Management platforms. Furthermore, their employees will treat your data with the utmost confidentiality.
What if I change my mind?
You can revoke the agreement within 14 days, without having to specify a reason. The withdrawal period ends 14 days after the day MyVanbreda confirmed your agreement. More information on revoking an agreement can be found in the footer.
What if I start to work for another employer?
MyVanbreda and its reduced rates apply for all employees and their families of the affiliated companies. When you leave your company, your contract can continue nonetheless. The insurance company, however, does have the right to change your premium to market rates from your contract’s next due date onwards.

Fire insurance

1. What goods are insured?

1.1 Your building

The building insured by you includes:

  • All constructions (main building and any annexes or separate outbuildings);
  • Courtyards, terraces and built access roads;
  • Enclosures (including hedges);
  • In-ground outdoor swimming pools with hard outer walls;
  • Garages (even at a separate address);
  • Integrated solar panels, heat pumps and home automation installations.

1.2 Your contents

The contents insured by you include:

  • Any goods in the building, in the garden, in the courtyards and on the access roads;
  • Special items and jewellery;
  • Clothing and linen;
  • Garden or DIY equipment, electronic and electric devices, non-integrated home automation installations and solar panels;
  • Vehicles, pets and valuables.

2. What risks are you insured against?

2.1 Fire, explosion and implosion

What is covered?

  • Damage due to fire, explosion or implosion;
  • Soot and smoke damage;
  • Damage due to lightning strike;
  • Rescue costs are reimbursed.

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • Insure your building and contents for the right amount;
  • Take precautionary measures (e.g. installing smoke alarms) in order to prevent fire damage.

2.2 Water damage and damage due to liquid fuels

What is covered?

  • Roof leaks, mould and damage due to escaping water (from aquaria, waterbeds etc.);
  • Water damage due to a leak;
  • Frost damage due to a faulty heating system.

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • Damage due to ground or rainwater infiltration or rising damp is not insured;
  • Frost damage to pipes is not insured if you do not turn the heating on during cold weather.

2.3 Storm, hail, snow and ice pressure

What is covered?

  • Damage due to storm, hail, snow and ice pressure;
  • Damage to satellite dishes, greenhouses, verandas, garden sheds and furniture, carports etc.;
  • Damage to children's fixed play equipment.

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • Damage to an open building is not covered if the damage is due to the fact that the building was left open (e.g. open windows or unlocked doors).

2.4 Glass breakage

What is covered?

  • Broken or cracked windows and mirrors;
  • Damage to vitro-ceramic and induction hobs;
  • Double-glazing becoming opaque due to condensation between the panes;
  • Integrated solar panels are automatically insured (including against theft).

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • Damage due to breakages or cracks in installed plumbing is covered up to a limited amount;

2.5 Electricity

What is covered?

  • Food contamination as a result of the unexpected failure or malfunctioning of a refrigerator or freezer;
  • Damage to electrical devices and installations due to short circuit, overload, excessive voltage or induction;
  • If your device is irreparably damaged through personal use, you will receive a new device.

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • Damage due to wear and tear is not insured;
  • Damage due to planned interruptions to the electricity supply is not insured.

3. What else are you also insured against?

3.1 Damage to your home - vandalism

What is covered?

  • burglar-related damage as a result of theft or attempted theft;
  • the theft of part of your home (e.g. solar panels, light fittings etc.);
  • vandalism (including graffiti inside your home).

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • Graffiti on the exterior of the building is not insured.

3.2 Collision - fall

What is covered?

  • Damage as a result of collision with land-based vehicles, aircraft or spacecraft;
  • Damage due to falling trees, pylons, cranes etc.;
  • Damage as a result of collision with animals.

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • Damage resulting from you colliding with your own home is also insured apart from any contents located outside the building

3.3 Loss of foodstuff

What is covered?

  • Damage to foodstuff as a result of the unexpected failure or malfunctioning of a refrigerator or freezer.

3.4 Industrial disputes and assaults

What is covered?

  • Damage to your insured buildings due to industrial disputes (e.g. strikes), assaults, terrorism and sabotage is covered.

3.5 Any risks relating to static computer equipment

What is covered?

  • Your static computer equipment (including computer, scanner, printer etc.) is insured against all risks. Any material damage due to an external cause is insured up to a maximum amount of 12,500 euros per claim.

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • Portable devices are only insured under the cover listed in section 2. These devices are thus not insured against theft, damage during transport or damage due to simple breakage.

3.6 Natural disasters

What is covered?

  • Damage as a result of flooding, earthquake, overflow of public sewers, landslide and subsidence.

3.7 Civil liability building

What is covered?

  • Damage caused by your insured home including its bordering gardens, terraces, chimneys, balconies, aerials, the insured contents and additional expenses (e.g. salvage, extinguishing and assessment costs).
  • Damage and redress to third parties.

A few examples:

  • A loose roof tile lands on a car parked in front of your home. Your "Civil liability building insurance" reimburses the material damage and any bodily injury;
  • Your satellite dish snaps off and falls through the glass roof of your neighbour's veranda. Your "Civil liability building insurance" will also reimburse the material damage and any bodily injury in this case.

3.8 The following are also insured:

  • All damage as a consequence of the aforementioned risks due to:
    • smoke, corrosive steam or heat;
    • rescue services, implemented extinguishing agents and preventive measures;
    • collapse.
  • Your contents when you move house within Belgium at both locations for 60 days;
  • The temporary relocation of your contents over 90 days (worldwide cover);
  • Your liability as a tenant in a holiday home (worldwide cover);
  • Your liability as a tenant for a student residence;
  • Your liability as a tenant/user of facilities for a family party.
  • In the event of damage:
    • salvage costs;
    • clearance and demolition costs;
    • any hotel expenses;
    • fees and assessment costs;
    • uselessness of immovable property.
  • Assistance for:
    • damage to your property;
    • urgent protective measures;
    • surveillance of the building;
    • securing the contents;
    • manage craftsmen;
    • manage a professional cleaning team;
    • physical damage as a result of a claim;
    • temporary accommodation during temporary uninhabitability;
    • delivery of urgent messages;
    • provision of similar accommodation in the case of permanent uninhabitability.

4. What else can you choose to insure?

4.1 Theft

What is covered?

  • Theft and burglar-related damage;
  • Theft from a garage at a separate address.

What do you need to pay attention to?

  • "Theft" is not default in your fire insurance;
  • The premises must be inhabited;
  • Do not leave any doors or windows open when you leave your home.

What is covered?

Limit Cover Example
Defence in criminal proceedings 15,000 euros A passer-by breaks their leg on a footpath where you failed to clear away the snow. You are prosecuted as a result.
Civil redress 15,000 euros Following a burglary, the thieves are caught. Any uninsured damage must be recovered from the captured offenders.
Insolvency of third parties 6,250 euros The opposite party you are charging for the damage appears to be unable to pay. As a result, your legal protection insurer will pay the compensation.
